Start with your site team's requirement
Before calling around, ask the contractor or engineer responsible for the job to confirm the formwork and temporary support requirements. Dimensions, loading, spans and site conditions affect what is appropriate. A supplier conversation is useful for availability, but it should not replace project-specific engineering decisions.
Build your material list
Prepare the item types and approximate quantities your site team has specified. Where units or sizes are unclear, get them clarified rather than assuming different items are interchangeable. Keep the list available when you speak with the store.
Work backwards from the planned date
Share the expected start date, how long the material will be required and whether the schedule might move. If several trades need the same access area, coordinate the timing with your site supervisor. Ask the supplier how much notice is needed and how changes are handled.
Discuss transport and unloading
Tell the supplier where the site is, what access is available and any restrictions that could affect unloading. Confirm who is arranging transport, when the vehicle can reach the site and who will count the items on arrival. Keep transport charges separate from the material rental in your planning until you have a confirmed quote.
Make the return plan early
Ask how the end date is recorded, how material should be grouped for return and what happens if concrete work or stripping is delayed. Clear return arrangements help avoid disputes about missing items or extra days.
Keep the site setup safe
Temporary works need careful planning and competent installation. Have the responsible engineer or qualified site professional confirm the design and setup, and make sure the team follows applicable inspection and safety practices. Do not use damaged or unsuitable parts.
