Rental planning

A few minutes of preparation can make the rental conversation much clearer.

Before you rent shuttering material: a site checklist

Before arranging material, get the basic information together. It helps you ask clearer questions, compare the right details and avoid last-minute confusion.

1. Know what stage the site is at

Tell the rental store what work is coming up. Slab, beam, column and access work can call for different material. If you are not sure about the exact items, ask your contractor or site engineer to prepare the requirement first.

2. Have a quantity estimate ready

Bring the best estimate you have, with the units used by your site team. The supplier can only confirm availability and a useful quote once the material type and approximate quantity are clear. Do not rely on a rough guess for structural or safety-critical requirements.

3. Agree on dates and duration

Discuss when the material is needed, the expected return date and what happens if site work runs longer than planned. Ask how extra days are handled and whether the rental period starts on dispatch, collection or another agreed point.

4. Ask what the quote includes

  • Rental rate and the period it covers.
  • Any deposit, advance payment or other charges.
  • Whether collection or transport is arranged separately.
  • How returns, late returns, damage or missing items are handled.

Get the details clearly agreed before material is taken to the site. If anything is unclear, ask before confirming the order.

5. Check the material when it arrives

Count the items against the agreed list and inspect the visible condition. Raise any shortage or concern with the supplier before the material is put into use. A simple written record can help both sides keep track of quantities.

One more thing: shuttering and temporary support must be planned and used by competent people. Confirm design, loading, installation and inspection with the responsible engineer or site supervisor.
